The concert took place at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, upstate New York, on 30th March 1985, and superbly captures the magnificence of the tour, Prince’s most successful ever - which resulted in sales of over 1.7 million tickets across 98 shows in total. The recording presented on this new double CD set comes from a spectacular show performed while Prince & The Revolution were on their Purple Rain tour. Purple Rain was the first project ever to achieve number one album, single and movie simultaneously. The record remained at the top of the Billboard album charts for 24 weeks, spawned four Top 10 singles and earned an Academy Award in the Best Original Song Score category. The soundtrack album was an even greater success, selling more than 13 million copies in the US alone. He insisted on playing the lead role in the film despite having no previous acting experience, but as it went on to earn over $80 million at the box office, few were complaining. Following the release of 1999 in 1982 - the album which contained Prince’s first Top 10 single, ‘Little Red Corvette’ - and the formation of his group, The Revolution, Prince embarked on his most adventurous move so far: the 1984 motion picture and subsequent studio album Purple Rain. The most commercially successful period in Prince’s musical career, by the mid-1980s this maverick performer, musician and composer was at the peak of his global popularity.
